Fiat Girls Club

Fiat is the Latin word for “Let it be done”. It was Mary's response to the angel Gabriel when she was asked to become the mother of Jesus. “Let it be done unto me according to Your Will” refers to Mary's '“yes” to God.
St. Veronica's Fiat girls’ group is for girls in grades 5-8 . Its purpose is to help young women in the parish grow in a spirit of prayer, service and virtue while growing in an understanding of the particular dignity of women and their vocation in the world and in the Church. This group helps young women to acquire “an influence, effect and power” (John Paul II) in the world as young women imbued with the Gospel. The two fundamental dimensions of the feminine vocations of motherhood and virginity for the sake of the Kingdom are highlighted and promoted through practical service and formation with Mary, the Mother of God, as the model of their dignity and vocation in the world.
What do we do?
The goal of Fiat is to give the girls of St. Veronica an opportunity to serve the community and the Church in a profound way while growing in virtue and an appreciation of culture. We live in a world full of people with great needs. Whether around the corner or around the world, there are people right now who have no one to pray for them. With this in mind, the primary role of Fiat is to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament during Eucharistic Holy Hours at the parish. During their peaceful time of prayer before Our Lord, the girls will pray and intercede for those most in need, especially the elderly and the young in our parish. As they spend time with Our Lord, they draw closer to him in a personal friendship which they then take out into the midst of their ordinary lives, enlivening their families and communities with the transformative joy of Christ. The girls do a variety of charitable works throughout the year as well. Some activities of other parishes with Fiat have included: making candles for the elderly, making a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., making rosaries for children, just to name a few. Fiat aids parents in forming their daughters to be a woman of virtue and dignity. Speakers are invited throughout the year to speak to the girls on a variety of topics ranging from fashion, beauty, art, music learning how to pray, the religious life, and motherhood. These talks and activities help to form the whole person so that the girls will respond generously and freely to God’s awesome and mysterious plan for their lives. Mrs. Sylvia Dorham will be the coordinator. You may contact her through the parish office (703-773-2000). The Fiat Girls’ Group will be starting up with a parents’ meeting in late August.
