Lent Begins Wednesday, March 6th.

March 5, 2019 1:51 pm

Wednesday, March 6th is Ash Wednesday.  Masses, with the distribution of ashes, will be celebrated at: 6:30 am, 8:30 am (school in attendance), 12:15 pm, 5:00 pm, and 7:30 pm.  Please note that the 7:30 pm Ash Wednesday Mass takes the place of the regular Wednesday evening schedule—there will be no 6:30 pm Confessions or Holy Hour.

Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast and Abstinence:  Everyone 14 years and older is bound to observe the law of abstinence from meat.  (This applies during the Fridays of Lent as well.)  Everyone from 18 years up to the beginning of the 60th year is also bound to observe the law of fast.  On this day, only one full meatless meal is allowed.  Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.
